Michgian Botanical Club ~2012 Spring Foray

May 25-28th, at the University of Michigan Biological Station in Pellston, MI

Foray Information:

The 2012 Michigan Botanical Club Spring Foray will hosted by the Huron Valley Chapter and the Univeristy of Michigan Biological Station in Pellston, MI.  Registration Forms and Field trip information will be mailed in the spring issue of the Arisaema newsletter in April.  You can register by sending your completed materials to the Registrar's address as listed on the Registration Form. You can also download the Registration Form from here starting mid-April. Registration is limited to 100 people, so please register early. Deadline for registration is May 1, 2012

While you are waiting for the Arisaema, you might enjoy reading a highly informative collection of essays about the "tip of the mitt" and the Douglas Lake area entitiled  "The Changing Environment of Northern Michigan" edited by Knute J. Nadelhoffer, Alan J. Hogg Jr., & Brain A. Hazlett, 2009. The well written chapters offer a summary of the research conducted in the area and covers the history, geology, ecosystems and habitats in enlightening detail. Paperback copies are available at any online book store or at the University of Michigan Biological Station.

In additon there are several hightly informative articles that have been published on plants of the Douglas Lake area in past issues of "The Michigan Botanist".  If you have archived some of these early issues it might be worth rereading a few to familiarize yourself with the some of the research and perhaps whet your appetite for botanizing at this years Spring Foray.
