MICHIGAN BOTANICAL CLUB
Lifetime Achievement Awards
The Lifetime Achievement Award was authorized by the MBC Board of
Directors in October 1997. It is intended to be presented only on very special
occasions.
The first Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Dr. Edward Voss for his long-time
service to the club and the completion of his monumental three-volume work,
Michigan
Flora. The award was presented to Dr. Voss in his office at the University of
Michigan Herbarium by MBC Vice-President Dan Skean. It was a life-size carving
of a dwarf lake iris, Iris lacustris, which had been hand-carved and painted by
Jim Sams of London, Kentucky.
The second Lifetime Achievement Award was awarded
posthumously to Dr. Warren H. Wagner.
The third Lifetime Achievement Award was awarded to Emma
Pitcher at the 2009 Spring Foray.
The fourth Lifetime Achievement Award was awarded to
Fred Case at the 2010 Spring Foray.
