2009 Meetings & Field trips

  • SATURDAY, April 4th at GVSU: John Legge, West Michigan Conservation Director of The Nature Conservancy, will present Invasive Plants of Lake Michigan Dunes. Plan to attend this meeting.

  • SATURDAY, May 9th : David Hazelswart will lead our first field trip of the season to Aman Park to see vistas of spring wildflowers.  Don’t miss this beautiful park.

  • MAY 22-25TH :MBC 2009 Spring State Foray:  Held at Kellogg Center at Michigan State University in East Lansing.  This will be hosted by the Red Cedar Chapter.

  • SATURDAY, June 6th 10:00 A.M.-12:00 P.M.: Botanize Great Lakes Marsh at Hofma Preserve with Chip Schaddelee as our leader.  After lunch we will visit Rosy Mound Park.

  • SATURDAY, July 18th at 2:00 P.M. : Dennis Dunlap will lead us in Hemlock Crossing County Park to find wildflowers and mushrooms. Come be a mycologist for a day.

  • SATURDAY, August 8th at 2:00 P.M. : Roger Tharp will take us to the Muskegon Lake Nature Preserve to locate freshwater sponges and wildflowers. 

  • SATURDAY, August 22nd at 10:00 A.M. : Lynne Kinkema will lead us through sand dunes at Kitchel-Lindquist Dunes Preserve to view botany specialized to dune environments.

  • SATURDAY, September 19th: Bill Martinus will lead a field trip to WA KE NA at 10:00 A.M.  After the trip, we can eat at the nearby Glenn Restaurant.  This is a combined WPC and SWC trip.

  • SATURDAY, October 10th :MBC 2009 Fall State Meeting:  Held at Calvin College’s Bunker Center in Grand Rapids.  This afternoon meeting begins at 1:00 P.M.  Botany Professor David Warners will give the presentation with a field trip following on the nearby grounds.  Our White Pine Chapter will host this meeting. 

  • SATURDAY, November 21st at GVSU: Judge Ed Post will present a program on Favorite Wildflowers.  Be sure to attend this meeting!

  • SATURDAY, December 12th at GVSU: Dr. John Shontz will present his color photography program on Botany in the Scottish Highlands.  (Rescheduled from February, 2009).  See you there

General Information About Meetings

  • Members of the public are welcome to attend meetings which are held on Saturday, September-April.
  • Unless otherwise noted, meetings start at 2:00 pm and are held in Room 142, Niemeyer Hall, Grand Valley State University, Allendale, MI.
