2002-2003 Meetings

- Tuesday - January 21, 7:00 p.m. Jason Kilgore, a doctoral
student in the Department of Plant Biology at Michigan State
University and president of Red Cedar Chapter of the MBC, will
present "Dendrochronology: Tree-rings as indicators of
Environmental Change". He will discuss what tree rings are and
how they are formed. How can we use trees to better
understand changes in the environment? Dendrochronology is a
systematic approach to using data recorded in the growth rings of
trees and thus to assess the impact of pollution, climate and
disturbances such as fire, flooding, landslides, volcanoes and
herbivory.
- Tuesday, Febrary 18, 7 p.m. Edward Voss,
"Botanical Island-Hopping near the Niagara Escarpment from Lake
Huron to Lake Michigan"
- MONDAY, March 10, 7 p.m. Botanical Auction - To raise
funds to send a graduate student to the Spring Foray. Dennis
Woodland will serve as our enthusiastic and entertaining auctioneer
! Bring plants, books, posters - anything you would like to
share and sell to someone who "needs" these items! Come
prepared to "buy" and be amazed !
